Discussion

The meeting of the Discussion group held on Thursday 1st December had 8 members attending. After a difficult start and much discussion a new group leader was agreed with myself standing down. The team agreed to help the new leader and a formal handover will take place at our next meeting on 5th January.

The main topic was Down's Syndrome and the detail of how this manifests itself was clearly laid out and noted how latest blood test if wished can determine if a baby will be born as such. After a very good discussion it was agreed that this latest innovation in no way will override the parents choice of whether they would take the test or not but it will be less intrusive and cause no harm where prior tests had that possibility.

Other members also related to family disabilities and how our generation copes with this, helping in any way we can.

Another member brought in an article on what is meant about a "Shared Space" in relation to our town centre works. It appears that there is no definitve rules governing this and each authority has it's own take on it. Our works are still to be completed and meeting with the Council has still to take place.

2017 subjects and research. It was agreed that all members will consider over the Christmas period what subjects they would like to cover apart from those listed below.

In conclusion I would like to thank all members of this Group for their  contributions over the last year and I wil look forward to taking a step back and contributing as a member. A Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year to you all.
