Welcome from Barry Walmsley, Chair of Wyre Forest and District u3a.
Hello and welcome!
The u3a is a national organisation with close on half a million members. It is designed for anyone who is retired or semi-retired and looking for new ways to meet people in their local area, and who may be interested in gaining new skills or knowledge. In the u3a we mostly learn from the huge resource of skills, knowledge and experience that already exists within our membership, and there is an awful lot of all three!
The national representative body of u3a in the UK is the ‘Third Age Trust’ and we abide by their objects and principles. If you would like to find out more about the National u3a movement, you can visit their website at www.u3a.org.uk
The membership of our u3a is over 900 and rising. We hold our ‘Monthly Meetings’ usually on the third Monday afternoon of each month and all members are welcome to attend these friendly and informative events. In addition, we currently have around 70 'Interest Groups'. These cover a wide range of subjects and activities and each is led by a u3a member with an interest or experience in that field. Most of our groups have room for new members and you can get more information about joining them by following the link to the Group page and emailing the Group Leader.
The annual fee for joining our u3a is currently £12.50 and if you would like to join you can find all the relevant details here. Once you are a member you will have access to more details about our u3a in the private ‘Members only’ section of our website. You can also elect to have copies of the National u3a Magazine ‘Third Age Matters’ posted to you at no additional cost, and you will receive our own internal quarterly email Newsletter to keep you up to date with what is happening in our neck of the woods.
If you are already a member I hope you will find our website useful and informative. If you are not yet a member, I hope you will now be rushing to follow the link to the application form, and in either case, if you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me at
With best wishes,
Barry Walmsley.
